Environment:Start Time: 6:15 AM Temperature: 63 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered Sunshine. Really muggy this morning making almost perfect conditions a bit trying. Nevertheless, I did my whole two miles and got home with something to show for it. I spotted two of the Cooper’s Hawk siblings playing Tag in the tree tops and eventually managed to catch them in a quiet moment. Today’s featured image is a flight of Canada Geese who were cruising up the Arkansas at about eye level. They were having an intense discussion about something. Also posted is one of this year’s Mule Deer fawns –…

Environment:Start Time: 6:05 AM Temperature: 64 degrees Sky: Sunny. More great walking conditions. Less birding opportunities. Today’s featured image is, I guess, a Deering opportunity with me finally getting a clear shot of a Mule Deer doe and her twins out shopping the prairie. The Cooper’s Hawk Kids were spending the morning chasing each other from tree to tree (their flight skills are quite good now) allowing me only one unobstructed shot of a stationary bird. To wrap it all up a Northern Flicker landed in some very flattering light and began posing for me. Sightings:Birds: Mallards, Osprey, Starlings, Western…

Environment:Start Time: 6:50 AM Temperature: 64 degrees Sky: Sunshine with few clouds. After a few days off for a holiday trip I am back on the trail. Very warm and sunny – so much so that I found myself wishing for one of those breezes that I complained about in February. Lake pueblo State Park seems to have survived the Fourth of July in pretty good shape. The only Osprey action I saw came from a group of four Western Kingbirds driving one of the bigger birds from its perch over the Arkansas River. Pictured below is my first close-up…

Environment:Start Time: 8:50 AM Temperature: 40 degrees Sky: Sunshine, no clouds and light breeze I guess October has been saving it for a big finish! Today’s walk at Lake Pueblo State Park was as bountiful as it was beautiful. Lots of birds and critters were out enjoying a fabulous morning. There were a bunch of mostly cooperative smaller birds that I’ve posted in the bottom gallery of this post. One, the Lincoln’s Sparrow is a new bird for me and I guess the American Goldfinch is a female. I got another White-crowned Sparrow and a Red-winged Blackbird was snacking nearby….

Environment:Start Time: 9:10 AM Temperature: 50 degrees Sky: Sunshine and diminishing clouds. Back on the trail with dry shoes allowing me to go the distance this morning. Things may be starting to pick up a bit bird-wise. I captured and posted (below) a Pied-billed Grebe in the Arkansas River. I take that as a good sign. I also got a (long) shot of a Red-tailed Hawk having something for breakfast way up on top of a utility power pole. Another Hawk capture that is posted below is kind of puzzling. I think it is a Red-tailed Hawk but Google wants…

Environment:Start Time: 7:15 AM Temperature: 58 degrees Sky: Sunshine, few clouds, heavy haze, no breeze. Wildfire haze is back on the heavy side. With the addition of some light high clouds the sunlight was a bit on the fuzzy side. Still a good day for a walk if you didn’t do a lot of breathing. Not so many birds or critters today though I did capture some long shots of various types perching as demonstrated in the mini-gallery below. A few Cormorants were working the Arkansas River and allowed me to get kind of close for a few frames. Today’s…
