Environment:Start Time: 7:55 AM Temperature: 60 degrees Sky: Sunny and with noticeable haze, no breeze Lazy Hazy Days of Summer Once again, what could have been a brilliant day for a walk in the woods was spoiled by very noticeable wildfire haze drifting in from the North. Pikes Peak, which I can normally see from Reservoir Road as I drive into the park, was not visible in a cloudless sky. I don’t know if I can legitimately blame the lack of animal activity on the haze but I’m going to anyway. My only real opportunities for bird photos came with…

Environment:Start Time: 7:20 AM Temperature: 59 degrees Sky: Sunny and blue, light breeze Another New Bird Identified The string of gorgeous mornings continued today. I had high hopes for bird photography too, since I had seen Turkeys, a Turkey Vulture and a Red-tail Hawk before we even got out of the car. And I was not disappointed by those feathered subjects that presented themselves while I was out of the car and outfitted for the task of capturing them (on a memory card.) My mindset today was to concentrate on smaller birds and I particularly wanted to see if I…

Environment:Start Time: 7:05 AM Temperature: 52 degrees Sky: Sunny and blue, light breeze New Bird Identified and an Old Bird Correctly Identified Spectacular light and just a hint of an Autumn chill made for another great walk at the park. There was quite a bit of feathered activity though the real action was occurring mostly in the shadows. Nevertheless I came out with a number of images worth sharing. Today’s featured image is of the Rabbitbrush that is starting to bloom and attract various insects as you can see. There should be more butterflies by this time of the year…

Environment:Start Time: 7:40 AM Temperature: 56 degrees Sky: Sunny and blue, light breeze Technique for Bird Identification Another great walking day that produced little in the way of great bird photography. So I thought for this post I’d discuss a bit about the process I use to identify birds that I see or shoot for these posts. Basically I shoot two “types” of bird photos. The first type is the obvious attempt to capture the bird in all its glory for sharing on this and other websites. Today’s featured image (above) is definitely one of that type. These pictures are…

Environment:Start Time: 8:17 AM Temperature: 56 degrees Sky: Sunny and blue, light breeze Liberty Point Takes the Stage Late start this morning paid off when some terrific sunshine finally rose above the low morning clouds. Today’s bird stars were Flickers and Osprey. Both brands were very busy and very shy. I got one shot of an Osprey perched over the Arkansas River with Liberty Point standing proudly in the background – today’s featured image. I had another chance to get an Osprey perching over the river and I hoped to be able to get some shots of him taking flight….
