Environment:Start Time: 3:05 PM Temperature: 43 degrees Sky: Sunshine and occasional breeze A long four day stretch of brutally cold temperatures has finally come to an end allowing me to apply my standard cure for “Cabin Fever”. Only one of the adult American Bald Eagles was anywhere to be seen but I had two photo sessions with it before s/he headed off (today’s featured image) to bluer skies. That American White Pelican is still staked out in the middle of the Arkansas River and I caught a Mallard couple (below) poking around in some freshly thawed gook on the river’s…

Environment:Start Time: 2:45 PM Temperature: 60 degrees Sky: Sunshine and Clouds There was no plan for me to go out to Lake Pueblo State Park today. Weather forecasters were predicting afternoon winds and the morning was cloudy and cool. But long about 2 PM the Sun popped out and there was no trace of the rumored wind. Arctic cold is predicted for the next three days so I headed out to see what there was to see. As it turned out things were pretty mellow and, like yesterday, my sunshine was swallowed up by a cloud bank halfway through my…

Environment:Start Time: 2:35 PM Temperature: 66 degrees Sky: Sunshine and Clouds I decided on an afternoon walk today after my phone’s weather app told me it would be “Sunny”. That was mostly right but a heavy cloud bank in the southwest muffled the light for the second half of my walk. Really wasn’t a problem as there was not much to shoot. I did see one of the juvenile Bald Eagles but it was positioned such that the only clear shot would have been from the middle of the river. I stayed dry. The Red-tailed Hawk I saw was circling…

Environment:Start Time: 9:10 AM Temperature: 40 degrees Sky: Sunshine light breeze Forecasts of a warmish afternoon made me decide to take a chance on a morning walk today. This turned out to be a pretty good decision. Apparently I was not alone in this course of action as the park and the Arkansas River were pretty busy. Today’s featured image shows just how busy the river was with humans and pelicans competing for space. The eagles are still haunting the fishing pond though no one was in the mood to dazzle me with a display of fishing prowess. Still, this…

Environment:Start Time: 9:45 AM Temperature: 46 degrees Sky: Sunshine ,no clouds with mild breeze Yet another warmish morning lured me out for an early stroll along the Arkansas River. Of course, I wanted to partake of all the eagles that have been hanging around lately. There were eagles but they were not doing much except perching in hard to photograph locations. I did manage to ambush one and a front and back view is posted below. There were quite a few woodpeckers flitting around today – both Hairy and Downy. Posted here is what I think is a Hairy Woodpecker….

Environment:Start Time: 10:25 AM Temperature: 43 degrees Sky: Sunshine with chilly breeze A dicey weather forecast for this afternoon and some pretty decent morning temps brought me out for a morning stroll at Lake Pueblo State Park. One of the better decisions I’ve made in my life. Right from the get-go it was literally eagle, eagle, eagle! I stepped out of my car and saw two adult American Bald Eagles perched on the southwestern edge of the Anticline Fishing Pond. I wasted no time heading over there and taking as many captures as I could. It was pretty exciting when…
