Much cooler this morning with a bit more activity from the Ospreys and a huge gathering of noisy Red-winged Blackbirds. So, not a bad day. Featured is the biggest surprise – one of three Black-necked Stilts that I caught flying low over the Arkansas River. You don’t see these often and this is one of the better shots of the species that I have ever taken. Catching a Red-winged Blackbird in flight is also a major coup. Pictured here is a small patch of Golden Currant that was blooming with vigor. Closing this post is a shot of an Osprey couple who are trying to build a nest on top of a very tall and flat-topped utility pole. A couple (the same ones?) tried this last year with not much success. There is nothing to really grip the nest and when the wind comes up – the nest falls down. I have to give them credit for persistence.
