The walking today was, as usual, excellent. Birding (not so much bird photography) was much better, too. I walked the same route as I did yesterday in hopes of getting a better shot of a Mountain Plover but there were none to be seen. A Belted Kingfisher teased me and flew downriver before I even registered what he was. The Killdeer were also content to remain on the far side of the Arkansas River. I did get a good crack at a Flicker who seemed quite content basking in the morning sun with the breeze lightly ruffling his breast feathers.
I have come to the conclusion that the Osprey and the Cormorants have left Lake Pueblo State Park for the season. I think that cold snap we had a week or so ago convinced them to move on a little early. So I guess Autumn is setting in. It is time to start keeping an eye out for Bald Eagles who should be arriving here soon.
