Eastern Kingbird at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

Got out a little earlier today to nearly ideal conditions though the trails are still a little muddy. The Arkansas River was quite high again this morning. Only a couple of Mallards and a Wood Duck couple were brave enough to try their luck on the swift water. The geese were huddled in groups on the river’s edge keeping a wary eye on me as I slowly passed keeping a wary eye on them. I heard a lot of unfamiliar bird calls today but really didn’t see any but the usual birds. Eastern Kingbirds are increasing in number as are the Orioles. Today’s featured image (above) is a female Bullock’s Oriole doing her darnedest to avoid being photographed. Also posted is an Eastern Kingbird. The coolest event of the outing occurred when I spotted an adult Great Horned Owl feeding an owlet some sort of captured critter. the two pictures posted below are all that I got – since I had no time to do anything but blast away, the images are not my finest efforts. You had to be there.
