Environment:
Start Time: 7:50 AM Temperature: 55 degrees Sky: Sunshine fading clouds with a light breeze
Today’s outing started out on the iffy side with a fair bit of cloudiness doing strange things to the morning light. Things got progressively better and by the time I was finished there was just wall to wall sunshine and not a cloud in sight. The birding followed a similar trend with a big finish as well. May as well get right to it – today’s featured image is of a pair of young Great Horned Owls that I spotted well off the trail. The picture below gives some sense of what I originally saw and the two patiently waited for me to crash through the weeds to get around in front for the good portrait. Eventually one of them got bored with me and flew off. Also posted today is a Mississippi Kite (also deep in the trees) that I caught gathering branches for nesting (or salad). Below is a shot of what Google identifies as a White-throated Flycatcher which is a new bird for me.
