Great Horned Owlet at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

Memorial Day weekend was off to a ripping start this morning at Lake Pueblo State Park. When I arrived I noticed a number of families had already set up shop around the Anticline Fishing Pond and were focused on some fishing. The Arkansas River was another story. There were a few serious fishermen out in the high water but not as many as a normal Saturday morning. I saw only one duck on the river today – no, not a Mallard – a Common Merganser. Today’s featured image is said Merganser. I only saw one family of Geese out with two goslings who are already getting pretty big. And I managed to track down one of the two Owlets that I photographed yesterday. I also photographed a new bird (for me) a Cordilleran Flycatcher according to Google Lens. The quality of this photo was good enough for an ID but not to post. Sorry.

Sightings:
Birds: Canada Geese, Osprey, Starlings, Cormorants, Swallows, Barn Swallows, Common Merganser, Western Kingbirds, Eastern Kingbirds, Bullock’s Oriole, American Robins, Mourning Doves, Great Horned Owl, Great Blue Heron, Cordilleran Flycatcher
Critters: Prairie Dogs, Cabbage Butterflies, Lizards

Gear: Nikon D5600, 55-300mm
