Double Crested Cormorants at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

After a busy holiday weekend and a couple of days for recovery I managed to make it out to Lake Pueblo State Park this morning. Everything was looking good except for the mud left over from last night’s heavy rains, though I’m not complaining. Not a lot going on today. I do think I’ve figured out where Osprey like to fish on the Arkansas River. It is about 200 yards up or down river from wherever I am standing. I did catch a Double-crested Cormorant working the river and tried to get a shot of it with a fish but that was not to be. The bird is today’s featured image (above) though I am not sure that will be any consolation to him. Posted below is a shot of a smaller bird sitting across from an American Kestrel. I’m not really sure what kind of bird the little guy was but he was putting up a ruckus to either warn the area of the dangerous intruder or drive the Kestrel away. I didn’t stick around to see the outcome.
