Summer Scenic at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

A much cooler morning got me out of the house today for an enjoyable walk by the river. I guess I caught the birds sleeping in on Sunday morning because it was kind of lonely out there. Two events of note. First I finally got a shot of a Wild Turkey Hen and her four Turkey-lets. Today’s featured image (above) is the group crossing the paved trail in front of me. I moved up on them and they hid in the trailside brush until I passed (having not seen them) and then they popped out behind me and headed on down the trail (below). Second, I think I finally have an ID on that wading bird I have been having trouble getting a decent shot of over my last couple of outings. Posted below is what Google identifies as (probably) a Solitary Sandpiper. Since I have only seen it alone it certainly falls nicely into the Solitary category. On the way out of the park I checked on my cliff-dwelling owls and I saw at least one still parked up there.
