White-crowned Sparrow at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

April Fool’s Day started out chilly, gloomy and gray inducing me to opt for an afternoon walk. This turned out to be a good decision though I have to admit that the warmer afternoon temps seemed to be suppressing avian activity. There were not many ducks at all on the Arkansas River – two of those present – a couple of Mallards – made it to featured image status. The osprey all seem to be focusing on nesting but I did catch one (below) flying over with its catch. I guess I was struck most by the birds I did not see – no Robins, no Starlings, no Gulls and still no Pelican Pete.

Sightings:
Birds: Mallards, Canada Geese, Osprey, Red-tailed Hawks, Northern Flickers, Pied-billed Grebe, Double-crested Cormorants, White-crowned Sparrows, Great Blue Heron, Yellow-rumped Warblers
Critters: None

Gear: Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II, Panasonic Lumix 100-300mm
