Rock Squirrel at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

Today’s outing started with some real excitement. I had just stepped out of my car when I spotted an Osprey perched high up over the Anticline Fishing Pond. What was unusual about this scene was the two Western Kingbirds that were tag-teaming the poor Osprey and really giving him a thumping. Today’s featured image is the final pass that drove the bigger bird from its perch. After that it was a pretty routine walk along the river. A couple of critters caught my eye – a Rock Squirrel pictured here having a look around and an Ornate Tree Lizard was out enjoying the sunshine. The other candidate for featured image is posted in the mini-gallery below – an American Kestrel who did me a solid posing in the sunshine at nearly eye level.
