I finally spotted my first ducklings of the year, though they were pretty far away. One river width, to be exact but still the shot is worthy of the featured image award. Three little Mallard ducklings were exploring the now reappearing river bank with mom. Mom was being very careful with the little ones and kept a close eye on me even at the distance. My other “prize” of the day is posted at the bottom – a Redheaded Woodpecker exiting its nest. Not the best quality but not too bad for a quick grab. As I alluded to earlier, the Arkansas River water level is coming down but I still caught this Great Blue Heron perched high up on a dead tree.
