A faraway Great Blue Heron won today’s featured image slot by completing a pleasant Summer morning scene. He (?) was perched well off the trail but very near the Arkansas River. I guess the theme for today is perching. I found this Great Horned Owl snoozing in the shade just off the trail. Bottom post is a Blue Grosbeak finally making an appearance and a parent/child Osprey moment. The Redheaded Woodpecker pictured below was the most active bird by far, making trip after trip to deliver bugs to its one (I think) offspring still in the nest.
