With a starting temperature near seventy degrees I made an abbreviated visit to Lake Pueblo State Park this morning. I wanted to check out the Osprey kiddos at the River Bend Nest. They are doing fine with only one of the three siblings actually in the nest. The real payoff was at the Redheaded Woodpecker nest. The featured image (top) is one of the adults sitting atop the nest tree with a tasty bug that had been offered at the nest opening (photo bottom) but then withdrawn. I think the parent is making an effort to lure junior out into the real world. I also got a nice capture of a Western Wood Peewee who was pretty busy rounding up breakfast.

Sightings:
Birds: Canada Geese, Mourning Doves, Eastern Kingbirds, Ospreys, Common Grackles, Starlings, Double Crested Cormorants, Redheaded Woodpeckers, Barn Swallows, Western Wood Peewee
Critters: Cabbage White Butterflies, mosquitoes, Widow Skimmers, Grasshoppers
