The strong winds we have been experiencing over the past couple of days managed to subside a little – at least for the early morning. The Rock Canyon area does not appear to be worse for wear since I didn’t see any new fallen trees. As far as nests go – things are really quiet. There was no activity at either the Cooper’s Hawk nest or the Red-tailed Hawk nest. I was only able to locate one of the three baby Great Horned Owls at that nest. Mom was nowhere to be seen. The Osprey weren’t spending much time in their nests, either, choosing instead to fly around and harass one another. The Kingbirds are coming on strong at last. Pictured below is one of many Eastern Kingbirds I saw – I think we have the arrival of the Miller Moths to thank for that. I also got a not so hot shot of what Google identifies as a Bank Swallow. I guess this could count as a new bird though I’ve probably seen hundreds of them. Featured today, up top, is a lonely Coyote that I caught roaming the South bank of the Arkansas River in the early morning light. Didn’t take it long to disappear into the brush as soon as it saw me.
