The one bird I got even a little close to is today’s featured image – a female Downy Woodpecker. She was very busy and didn’t hang around long but finally showed me her face. Otherwise I was limited to catching birds as they flew by. Got some good ones, though. The Osprey pictured here was headed in from the direction of the Fish Hatchery – so you know this fish is young and tender! And I got a Great Blue Heron and a Red-tailed Hawk. I kind of think the hawk is the adult I have been (barely) seeing in the nest that I have been watching. Later I saw what I think is this same bird sitting in the nest with no sign of a little one. I looked and looked for my three favorite juvenile Great Horned Owls but could not find them.
