There was a bit more bird activity out on the trail this morning compared to my last couple of tours. Featured today is the only juvenile Great Horned Owl who seems to be still hanging around. I saw no sign of Mom or siblings. This one is growing up fast and seems to me to be close to having its full adult plumage. Pictured here is a female Red-winged Blackbird who was out with a pack tearing up the bank of the (still high) Arkansas River. I saw one baby Red-tailed Hawk in the nest and only one of the new Osprey babies in that nest. The Western Kingbirds are still attacking the Osprey who I don’t think are going to be moving out anytime soon. Everyone needs a hobby.
