Environment:
Start Time: 6:10 AM Temperature: 56 degrees Sky: Sunny.
Walking conditions were about as close to perfect as could be expected at Lake Pueblo State Park this morning. The sky was clear and the temperature was pleasant. Today’s featured image is an Osprey cartwheeling into a dive over the Anticline Fishing Pond. Despite this excellent form the bird came up empty-taloned. Pictured here are a couple of Western Kingbirds enjoying the morning light while taking a break from harassing Ospreys. There was a mother American Kestrel out with (I think) two youngsters who were keeping her busy gathering up food (grasshoppers) to hand off to them. The little ones were flying pretty well but seemed a little clumsy when trying to perch on branches. I also encountered two Great Blue Herons actually on the Arkansas River – but they saw me before I saw them so I have no photographic proof.
