Environment:
Start Time: 6:15 AM Temperature: 58 degrees Sky: Sun muted by thick haze.
Although technically a sunny morning the light throughout Rock Canyon was very soft today. I am not sure if the haze that was filtering the light was humidity or wildfire smoke but it really had an impact. I’m not complaining – I really got a good mix of birds. For example today I got my first good (not great) shot of a Green Heron – featured above. This bird was perched in a tangle of branches on the other side of the river which made getting a tack sharp focus really tough. I almost did it. Pictured here is a Lesser Goldfinch busy working on the Wild Sunflowers. The Osprey chicks are getting feisty but still in the nest and the Red-tailed Hawk Eyas was playing really hard to get. I also spotted one Great Horned Owl.
