Osprey and Red-tailed Hawk in combat above Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

Things a little cooler this morning which wouldn’t have been so bad if the punishing breeze had been missing. This was the kind of breeze that would feel great on a September afternoon but is not welcome on an April morning. It turned out that putting up with the cooler weather paid off. I spotted a Red-tailed Hawk perched in the Osprey Picnic area and headed over to grab some pics (one is posted below.) What happened next was really something. An Osprey swooped in and started after the hawk. I guess the Osprey was telling the hawk that this was the OSPREY area – no hawks allowed. They both took off and that Osprey took quite a few passes at the Red-tail. They were fighting at a pretty high altitude so the pictures that I got are not great. The best one is posted here. Today’s featured image is a Cormorant flying by.
