Much calmer weather this morning allowed me to spend a little more time with my subjects. The cormorants were very active – flying around, vocalizing and setting down in the Anticline Fishing Pond. One of the perched birds is today’s featured image. I think I have read that the tufted feathers on this bird’s head indicate a breeding adult. I caught a Great Blue Heron strutting along the Arkansas River and a Red-winged Blackbird announcing its presence high up in the trees. I have located a Cooper’s Hawk nest so I’m sure there will be a lot more photos to come – with luck maybe some hawklets.
