Red-winged Blackbird at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

A very pleasant morning greeted me upon arrival at Lake Pueblo State Park. Still a lot of nesting activity going on – especially the Starlings and the Osprey. It looks like a pair of Osprey are going to take up residence in last year’s new nest right next to the Swim Beach. I’ve seen activity there two days in a row now. I also saw a couple of Osprey checking out the nest that is built on top of a utility pole nearer to the Arkansas River right along the trail. This has been sort of a hard luck nest (in 2019 it caught fire and was destroyed) and was not used at all last year. I hope they do move in as it is the perfect Osprey nesting site for lazy photographers. Today’s featured image is an Osprey taking a break from hunting nesting material. Of the less majestic subjects captured today are a couple of White-crowned Sparrows and a Red-winged Blackbird.

Sightings:
Birds: Canada Geese, Mallards, Osprey, Gulls, Robins, Starlings, Cormorants, American Kestrel, Red-winged Blackbird, Flicker, Wood Ducks, Pied-billed Grebe, American Coot, Sharp-shinned Hawk, White-crowned Sparrows, Turkey Vulture
Critters: Squirrel

Gear: Nikon D5600, 55-300mm
