A wicked streak of super cold and snowy weather finally broke today allowing me to return to Lake Pueblo State Park to asses the storm damage. All seemed well – I even spotted an adult Bald Eagle perched high up right as I arrived. His photo is posted below – looking as regal as can be. I’m afraid this magnificent bird got bumped from “Featured Image” status by an equally magnificent (and unusual) visitor – an American White Pelican. I have seen pelicans on the West end of Lake Pueblo in summertime but I have never seen one on the Arkansas River let alone in Mid-Winter. Quite a treat. Just below is a Barrow’s Goldeneye – another less common duck in these parts. I did capture an image of some Goldeneye flying overhead but I can’t say for sure if they are also Barrow’s or if they are Common Goldeneye. What do you think?
