American Bald Eagle at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

A long four day stretch of brutally cold temperatures has finally come to an end allowing me to apply my standard cure for “Cabin Fever”. Only one of the adult American Bald Eagles was anywhere to be seen but I had two photo sessions with it before s/he headed off (today’s featured image) to bluer skies. That American White Pelican is still staked out in the middle of the Arkansas River and I caught a Mallard couple (below) poking around in some freshly thawed gook on the river’s edge. I saw a good variety of birds (most only briefly) and I have placed an asterisks by the Mule Deer item in the Sightings box because six or seven Mule Deer crossed in front of me on Thatcher Ave. as I was driving out. They were crossing between the Front Nine and the Back Nine courses of the Elmwood Golf Course. I guess you could say they were playing through.

Sightings:
Birds: Mallards, Gadwalls, Gulls, Canada Geese, American Bald Eagle, American White Pelican, Pied-billed Grebe, Goldeneye, Buffleheads, Bushtits, Dark-eyed Juncos, American Coot, White-crowned Sparrows, Northern Flicker, European Starlings
Critters: Mule Deer*
