This morning was even cooler at 59 degrees than it was yesterday at 6:15. Maybe tomorrow it will snow. Pretty cloudy but some sun especially near the end of my walk. Really a beautiful day for a stroll though the trails and lawns were a bit muddy as a result of last evening’s rain.
The first thing Whisper and I did was check out the Osprey nest that I spotted yesterday. The reason I saw it was because I was following the flight of an Osprey who was carrying what looked like nesting material and s/he flew right to the nest. At closer viewing today it does look like the nest is under construction and I only saw two adult looking birds there. I don’t know if they are getting a late start or if they were just making repairs but I plan to keep an eye on it for the rest of the season.
As far as bird photography goes this morning I had some good luck. First off I found what I thought were juvenile Starlings perching by the Arkansas River. When I got home and Googled the picture it seems that what I got was a female Red-winged Blackbird. Very cool. Then just a little further down the trail I was surprised to see what was probably a family outing of three Red-tailed Hawks. Could be the parents were showing a child around. I managed to get a pretty good shot of one of them perched and later an OK shot of the same bird in flight (above). All in all not a bad trip.
