Red-winged Blackbird at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

Back on tour at Lake Pueblo State Park in the early morning. Another perfect day. Not a lot of fishermen (or women) on the Arkansas River which is running quite high. I only saw two Mallards on the water and a group of Canada Geese (pictured below) who seemed quite content to remain near the shore. I got to see an Osprey pluck its breakfast from the river – I tried to capture the whole event but I lost him on the dive. Today’s featured image is that bird hovering / taking aim just prior to making a strike which was successful – from the bird’s point of view. Also posted is a not so hot picture of a Red-winged Blackbird perched way up on a tree. I also noticed that the wild gourd plants that are along the trail have started to bloom (posted below). I ran this photo through Google and got a “Wild Pumpkin” identification. I don’t know – that seems like an oxymoron to me. I can’t think of anything less wild than pumpkin.
