No wind this morning so I managed to hit the trail to celebrate the last day of May. There was plenty of bird chatter (one Yellow-breasted Chat) and activity but not many of my feathered friends felt like posing for immortalization. The Arkansas River is higher than it was Sunday and I only saw a few Canada Geese (no goslings) and one Mallard out on the water. Below is a goose who seems unhappy with the water level on one of the river’s, normally dry, sand islands. The mini-gallery below is a couple of Eastern Kingbirds shots – one nesting and the other on the hunt. The featured image up top is one of the many Osprey who seemed content to be floating high above it all.
