Ladder-backed Woodpecker at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

A rather warm morning temperature and the promise of a windy afternoon got me going early today at Lake Pueblo State Park. The leaves are still looking good, though certainly past their prime – today’s feature image. Bird-wise today’s tour was not as exciting as my past several walks – it looks like the owls are not morning people. Pictured here are the two prize captures of the day – a Ladder-backed Woodpecker (says Google) who was very interested in the Walking Stick Cactus and very hard to photograph. To top things off (on the bottom of the post) I got a Northern Flicker who was easier to photograph.

Sightings:
Birds: Mallards, Ring-billed Gulls, White-crowned Sparrows, Belted Kingfisher, Ladder-backed Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Dark-eyed Juncos, Starlings, American robins, Gadwalls, Finch
Critters: Grasshoppers, Tree Squirrels, Prairie Dogs

Gear: Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II, Panasonic Lumix 100-300mm
