Northern Flicker at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

Climate conditions finally stabilized enough that I could get out to Lake Pueblo State Park this afternoon. It was chilly, though, as the image below illustrates. But there were a couple of nice surprises out there today. What I thought was a Redheaded Duck turned out to be a Canvasback (new bird for me) and there were a bunch of Common Goldeneye settling into the Arkansas River neighborhood. I saw three Great Blue Herons and quite a few Northern Flickers. Today’s featured image is what I believe to be a Red-tailed Hawk probably enjoying the absence of Osprey. I only caught a glimpse of a Great Horned Owl but I heard two or three conversing as the woods grew dark.

Sightings:
Birds: Mallards, Canvasback Duck, Common Goldeneyes, Gulls, Northern Flickers, Starlings, Great Blue Herons, Sparrows, Dark-eyed Juncos, Canada Geese, Great Horned Owl, American Robins
Critters: Mule Deer (Bucks and Doe), Tree Squirrel

Gear: Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II, Lumix 100-300mm
