I think there is a Great Blue Heron convention going on at Lake Pueblo State Park today. While on my usual tour of Rock Canyon I saw at least a half dozen of the large birds. All but one were perched high up in the trees. As an example I point to today’s featured image – can you find the heron? It amazes me how it can blend in with the surroundings while not being even a similar color. Pictured here is the bird I got closest to today, a House Finch with what looks like a large seed. Two Red-tailed Hawks flew over me as my walk was ending. And I caught another glimpse of the lone Osprey gliding over the river. I guess this one has decided that the trip South just isn’t worth the trouble. It’s going to be interesting to see how long it can maintain that sentiment.
