I finally got a decent shot of a Redheaded Woodpecker this morning. This is the featured image and I believe it to be a juvenile since you can still see traces of the hatchling gray head color showing through the incoming red. There were quite a few Great Blue Herons lining the South bank of the Arkansas River – and even a few on the North. None of them were too cooperative either in posing or working in decent light. There are plenty of Mallard Hens all along the river but no Drakes. I don’t know where the boys are hanging out these days. The Osprey are distributed pretty nicely along the length of the section of the river that I walk. None of them want to go fishing anywhere near me. I only get to see them with their catch after the exciting part.
