February 11, 2022 – Repost

The weather outside is frightful. My warm wool blanket is delightful. I guess I got nowhere to go. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Things were a lot nicer in 2022. Environment:Start Time: 10:25 AM Temperature: 43 degrees Sky: Sunshine with chilly breeze A dicey weather forecast for this afternoon and some pretty decent morning temps brought me out for a morning stroll at Lake Pueblo State Park. One of the better decisions I’ve made in my life. Right from the get-go it was literally eagle, eagle, eagle! I stepped out of my car and saw two…

Pelican Pete’s Happy Ending

Loyal readers will be aware of the presence of an American White Pelican on the Arkansas River over the past month or two. – a bird I dubbed Pelican Pete. Recently I noticed Pete was gone from his usual perch on the Arkansas River and today I learned of his fate. He is now in the hands of the Raptor Center at the Nature and Wildlife Center and is receiving the care of experts. Check out this video report from KRDO TV in Colorado Springs.

Environment:Start Time: 9:10 AM Temperature: 54 degrees Sky: Sun and clouds. A very busy Saturday morning at Lake Pueblo State Park. Lots of fishermen, hikers, bikers and dogs. Plenty of birds too though they all seemed to me in a hurry to get somewhere else. Except for the subject of today’s featured image – our friend the American White Pelican. It was still positioned on its favorite rock in the Arkansas River but was actively stretching and flapping those huge wings as a greeting to the morning sunshine. Pictured below is another Red-tailed Hawk taking flight – I think this…

Environment:Start Time: 9:10 AM Temperature: 40 degrees Sky: Sunshine light breeze Forecasts of a warmish afternoon made me decide to take a chance on a morning walk today. This turned out to be a pretty good decision. Apparently I was not alone in this course of action as the park and the Arkansas River were pretty busy. Today’s featured image shows just how busy the river was with humans and pelicans competing for space. The eagles are still haunting the fishing pond though no one was in the mood to dazzle me with a display of fishing prowess. Still, this…

I stepped out of my car and saw two adult American Bald Eagles perched on the southwestern edge of the Anticline Fishing Pond. I wasted no time heading over there and taking as many captures as I could. It was pretty exciting when…
