Revealing the Hidden Beauty of Colorado
Shot April 10, 2021 at the Cormorant Rookery at Valco Ponds near Lake Pueblo State Park in Southern Colorado. Conditions on this early evening were nearly ideal but I had to overexpose sky and tree to get any detail in the black birds. There’s a lot going on in this video – watch it more than once!
Environment:Start Time: 8:35 AM Temperature: 44 degrees Sky: Sunny, clouds; annoying breeze Things a little cooler this morning which wouldn’t have been so bad if the punishing breeze had been missing. This was the kind of breeze that would feel great on a September afternoon but is not welcome on an April morning. It turned out that putting up with the cooler weather paid off. Environment:Start Time: 7:10 AM Temperature: 66 degrees Sky: Heavy wildfire haze, no breeze Today’s walk turned a little tedious this morning because of a higher level of humidity. It wasn’t so bad at first but as the sun rose above the fire haze it got pretty uncomfortable. Once again, there was lots of bird chatter but not many of them were willing to show themselves for digital immortalization. I did manage a few frames of a passing Cormorant which is the featured image of the day. It’s going to be a hot one today. Weather forecast is for 100+ degrees. We got to our starting spot at 6:10 again and the temp had only reached 56 degrees. No clouds were there to offer even the slightest relief. You gotta start early or forget about it. I decided to give the heron’s a day off today and didn’t check out the nest this morning.
