Environment:Start Time: 6:25 AM Temperature: 63 degrees Sky: Sunshine. Looks like today has a Double Crested Cormorant theme. These guys have been very active this month and have finally selected three different trees as their spots to dry out and gossip. Usually only two trees are required but there are just too many birds for everyone to fit. Featured today is what I believe to be a juvenile coming in for a landing on one of the gathering spots. Pictured here is an adult either drying out its wings or praying for a less crowded perch. There were other birds…

Environment:Start Time: 6:35 AM Temperature: 32 degrees Sky: Mostly sunshine. Things seem to have held up well at Lake Pueblo State Park after the last few days of dangerously high winds. I was only able to see one newly fallen tree. I’m happy to report that the Great Horned Owl, nest and babies came through with flying colors. The Osprey were very busy today trying to grab a bite here and there but not having a lot of success that I could see. A few were actively ripping branches off of the treetops to gather material for nest repairs. Featured…

Environment:Start Time: 8:10 AM Temperature: 54 degrees Sky: Mostly sunshine. Once again I managed to catch sight of a good number of birds without capturing many of them on my memory card. Everyone was either keeping their distance or heading off to an important appointment. All except for the Great Blue Heron in the featured spot above. This one was just chilling on a mid-river rock without a care in the world while fish were jumping up all around. Guess s/he was full. The blooming Rabbitbrush were joined today by some blooming Machaeranthera (I hope) with a nice complementary shade…

Environment:Start Time: 8:00 AM Temperature: 64 degrees Sky: Bright sunshine. There were quite a few human fishermen out on the Arkansas River this morning but not so many of the feathered variety. Today’s featured image is a Double Crested Cormorant who, having just lifted off the river, is flying low above the surface. My other capture for the day is the Osprey at post bottom. I had followed this bird up river from tree to tree. I thought he was going to try for a fish but that thought did not seem to occur to this young fisherman. Sightings:Birds: Ducks,…
