Environment:Start Time: 2:45 PM Temperature: 67 degrees Sky: Sunshine and clouds – weather closing in. Quickly deteriorating weather greeted me this afternoon. I didn’t do a morning walk because of pretty heavy cloud cover. The Sun finally popped out and burned off those clouds but by the time I started my walk clouds were building back in from the West. I don’t know if the birds at the park had already hunkered down ahead of the coming change in climate but they were noticeably not present. I did catch a European Starling checking out a hole in a tree in…

Environment:Start Time: 3:40 PM Temperature: 41 degrees Sky: Heavy cloud-filtered sunshine Winter is finally starting to make its appearance. My fear is that it may be too late for some of the trees as demonstrated in the image below of a Starling perching in a Cottonwood that appears (to me) to be well into the Spring budding process. When the cold eventually shows up I don’t think things are going to go well for this – and quite a few other – tree. But there are still birds to be photographed. Posted here is a White-crowned Sparrow who waited patiently…

Environment:Start Time: 8:20 AM Temperature: 55 degrees Sky: Sunshine, clouds and intermittent breeze. Check out last year’s walk on this day! Slightly less sunshine and way fewer birds than yesterday but still a very pleasant outing this morning. I heard but did not see Blue Jays so I know they are still around. Also still around are a few Double Crested Cormorants a picture of one is posted below flying by. And the Gulls are starting to be seen more often on and above the Arkansas River. Today’s featured image (above) is a group of European Starlings gathered way up…

Environment:Start Time: 8:15 AM Temperature: 49 degrees Sky: Sunshine, no clouds, light breeze, Blue sky Yet another near perfect day for hiking and birding. Probably would have been better with a few more birds around. Most notable today was the birds I didn’t see. No Robins, Sparrows (of any stripe), Warblers, Chickadees, Kingfishers or Juncos. Bird-wise it was all Raptors all the time (except for the ducks and Starlings.) There were a couple of Osprey flying around with one trying to steal what the other had in its claws – though it didn’t look like much of a prize to…
