Environment:Start Time: 6:55 AM Temperature: 61 degrees Sky: Wildfire haze, bright sunshine with light breeze. An otherwise perfect walking day was diminished by wildfire smoke streaming in from a fire in Arizona. Activity was pretty subdued as well, though I think the high water level of the Arkansas River was mostly to blame for that. There weren’t a lot of birds that I saw and those that I did see were only briefly seen. Except for the goslings I caught resting on the river bank – today’s featured image. They are getting bigger but the adults are still keeping them…

Environment:Start Time: 6:35 AM Temperature: 65 degrees Sky: Haze filtered sunshine few clouds little breeze Yet another hazy morning. I think we are in for a hazy Summer. Conditions were still good for walking as long as you limited your breathing. Really not a lot going on at Lake Pueblo State Park this morning. The Arkansas River, though lower than yesterday, is still pretty high – I saw few fishermen. The Canada Geese are getting back out on the water and the young ones are getting bigger fast – today’s featured image. The most cooperative bird of the day, a…

Environment:Start Time: 8:50 AM Temperature: 60 degrees Sky: Sunshine few clouds with a light breeze Memorial Day weekend was off to a ripping start this morning at Lake Pueblo State Park. When I arrived I noticed a number of families had already set up shop around the Anticline Fishing Pond and were focused on some fishing. The Arkansas River was another story. There were a few serious fishermen out in the high water but not as many as a normal Saturday morning. I saw only one duck on the river today – no, not a Mallard – a Common Merganser….

Environment:Start Time: 9:35 AM Temperature: 48 degrees Sky: Sun and clouds with a light breeze Morning fog kept me waiting today but finally this bright shiny orb burned through and I decided to try another walk. There was a lot of chatter all around me as I walked but it was confined to the trees and prairie with no one coming out to sing for a photo. The Swallows were swarming the Arkansas River again today and were still tough to photograph. I tried but failed. Not much else was going on in the river – only a few Mallards…

Environment:Start Time: 10:50 AM Temperature: 47 degrees Sky: Overcast with a light breeze A long lasting miserable pattern of wet/cold weather is finally starting to move out of the area. Not a minute too soon, either. I had to wait a little longer than usual for the temperature to hit tolerable levels (and I was hoping for the Sun to break out) but I did make it out to Lake Pueblo State Park for a long walk. The stars of today’s post are the hundreds of Swallows – Violet-green and Barn – that were swarming over the Arkansas River. I…
