January 09, 2022 – Repost

Temperamental weather conditions persist. Here is what was happening two years ago. Think Spring. Environment:Start Time: 2:10 PM Temperature: 42 degrees Sky: Sunshine little breeze Today started out a little dicey weather-wise but turned into an extremely pleasant afternoon which transported me from my couch to the Rock Canyon trails at Lake Pueblo State Park. The Arkansas River was well populated with fishermen which generally is a good thing – everyone should be out enjoying such a day – but is kind of a bummer for me because all that river traffic cuts down on my chances of seeing Belted…

The Arkansas River was well populated with fishermen which generally is a good thing – everyone should be out enjoying such a day – but is kind of a bummer for me because all that river traffic cuts down on my chances of seeing Belted Kingfishers and/or Great Blue Herons the two shyest birds in the park. Still I…

Environment:Start Time: 8:00 AM Temperature: 60 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine and little breeze again. Check out last year’s walk on this day! Did I say not much was happening at Lake Pueblo State Park yesterday? I guess I misspoke. Compared to today, yesterday was an absolute festival. I know the sightings box (below) shows a number of birds out but technically most of those sightings should be referred to as nano-sightings since I only saw the birds in passing. The only bird I captured was a Sharp-shinned Hawk (posted) who was deep in the leaves making the shot rather…

Environment:Start Time: 7:20 AM Temperature: 65 degrees Sky: Sunshine, haze with light wind. Wildfire haze remains an issue but since it wasn’t as bad as it was yesterday I decided to give it a go this morning. The light was still a bit muted but the wind that was blowing in made things pretty comfortable all in all. Sadly, I was only able to get two frames worth posting today. But today’s featured image (above) really made the trip worthwhile. A Sharp-shinned Hawk (probably one of the youngsters I shot the other day) was checking things out on the river…

Environment:Start Time: 7:05 AM Temperature: 59 degrees Sky: Sun filtered by wildfire haze and no clouds. No breeze. This morning was pretty much a carbon copy of yesterday. The only benefit of the haze is that it keeps down the heat. There was a bit more bird activity. I managed to catch three Sharp-shinned hawks bouncing from tree to tree. I’m pretty sure this was a family group though I don’t know how many of the birds were adults and how many were not. Today’s featured image is one of those birds. I also spotted a Great Horned Owl dozing…

Environment:Start Time: 6:50 AM Temperature: 66 degrees Sky: Sunshine few clouds Another very quiet day at the park. I could literally hear crickets chirping in the brush. Still a pleasant day for a walk though toward the end it was getting a little warm. Really only two lucky breaks this morning. Number one – today’s featured image of an Osprey leaping into flight (and in focus). The other break was capturing the Sharp-shinned Hawk posted below. I think this might be a juvenile because he was hopping around looking at things as though for the first time. I took quite…
