July 13, 2022

Environment:Start Time: 6:05 AM Temperature: 55 degrees Sky: Sunshine. Today’s stars turned out to be the little birds. The Osprey were busy flying high and I did see one of the Cooper’s Hawk youngsters but I got no images of any of them. The featured image is a heart warming shot of an adult Western Kingbird bringing a tasty insect to her (?) babies who are huddled together on a branch. Maybe its their first day out of the nest – who knows? The Barn Swallow nest is still operational at the informational kiosk by the fishing pond and I…

April 27, 2022

Environment:Start Time: 7:50 AM Temperature: 48 degrees Sky: Partial overcast with light breeze. Gloomy clouds almost made me take the day off this morning but I decided to give it a try hoping the Sun would fight its way through the clouds. Old Sol didn’t put up much of a fight but occasionally I could see distinct shadows. Still I’m glad I made it to the Arkansas River because I got a new bird! Today’s featured image is not that great but it is a Nuttall’s Woodpecker hopping about in a Walking Stick cactus. She (don’t see any red patches)…

May 22, 2021

Environment:Start Time: 7:30 AM Temperature: 57 degrees Sky: Sunshine and clouds with a light breeze The Sun finally decided to rise above the clouds in the East allowing me to make it out to my normal haunt a little earlier than usual. My hopes of catching “Early Birds” devouring worms were crushed because very few birds were taking advantage of the sunshine. Once again only a few Mallards and a couple of Blue-winged Teals were willing to step into the Arkansas River. I did see some Wood Ducks but they were sitting in a tree. What geese I saw were…
