January 05, 2023 Re-Post

Environment:Start Time: 3:40 PM Temperature: 43 degrees Sky: Sunny to start. As I continue to recover from a tenacious virus I am re-posting this date from last year. I was kind of surprised that I didn’t make it out then until the fifth. I guess I shouldn’t fee too bad about this year’s delay. My first 2023 outing is now in the books. I finally got a day that wasn’t too cold, dark or windy. Thing is, it wasn’t too birdy. I still got some good sightings but not many photo opportunities. The best moment came when I accidentally flushed…

November 16, 2022 – Repost

Weather today in 2023 is not cooperating so I am reaching back into the archive to see what was going on in 2022! Enjoy. Environment:Start Time: 3:30 PM Temperature: 45 degrees Sky: Sun with light breeze. Bright sunshine and less of a breeze were the order of the day. Lake Pueblo State Park was pretty quite with only the smaller birds (and not many of them) busy with their normal activities. Today’s featured image is a Rusty Blackbird ( a new bird for me) that I thought was a Starling when I made the capture but Google set me straight….

Thing is, it wasn’t too birdy. I still got some good sightings but not many photo opportunities. The best moment came when I accidentally flushed a Great Horned Owl from its perch and it flew past me. I was surprised when it took flight since I had not seen it at all. S/He flew right past me at eye level no more that 15 feet away and I…

Lake Pueblo State Park was pretty quite with only the smaller birds (and not many of them) busy with their normal activities. Today’s featured image is a Rusty Blackbird ( a new bird for me) that I thought was a Starling when I made the capture but Google set me straight. I caught this picture of a male House Finch first thing and just a little later the White-breasted Nuthatch in the mini-gallery below landed…

August 04, 2022

Environment:Start Time: 6:40 AM Temperature: 64 degrees Sky: Sunny. Not a lot going on this morning at Lake Pueblo State Park though the Arkansas River’s falling water level is attracting more fishermen. There was a lot of bird activity but very few volunteers for Internet fame. I accidentally flushed out a pair of twin fawns and got a decent shot of one of them. Today’s featured image is also another critter – a Monarch Butterfly sampling one of the Wild Sunflowers that dot the park. The only birds that I managed (with some effort) to capture are in the mini-gallery…
