Lots of Osprey activity today and some Mule Deer action. I spent a lot of time trying to catch an Osprey either fishing or flying above with the Moon in the background. Didn’t really get either shot. The Osprey pictured here and the shot below (I think they are the same bird) is what I think might be a juvenile working on getting its fishing license. I say this because its fishing technique was rather tentative. It made no real dives and seemed to fly low over the river surface with claws out almost like it expected the fish to jump into its grip. None did. On the Mule Deer front – while I was waiting for an Osprey to fly past the Moon I spotted the fawn (featured above) running along the opposite bank of the Arkansas River. S/He seemed to be in a panic. I think it had lost track of mom. Eventually it abandoned the land and swam across the river right toward me. I don’t think it saw me until just as it arrived on my side of the river and when I was seen the panic escalated and the poor creature bounced away even faster. I hope it found its mom.
