November 30, 2020 Re-post

After returning from my Holiday visit to San Francisco I am facing two issues. First, of course, is the super cold weather and, second, I managed to pick up a bug somewhere along the way. Right now I am thinking (hoping) chest cold but I am not in a position to go out walking in the woods. Instead I am dipping into two years of archived posts and giving you, my loyal reader, a little trip down memory lane. Enjoy. Environment:Start Time: 2:40 PM Temperature: 60 degrees Sky: Sunny, no clouds, light breeze The last day of November turned to…

Environment:Start Time: 4:40 PM Temperature: 59 degrees Sky: More clouds than Sun with persistent breeze. Winter’s last full day turned out a little better than I expected. What started as an unremarkable walk ended with a bang when I spotted an Osprey perched over the Arkansas River which he was studying intently. He was a little soggy from what I assume was an unsuccessful fishing trip but apparently undaunted. In total I saw three Osprey which ins enough for me to declare Osprey Season officially open. As and added bonus I also spotted an American Bald Eagle cruising the park…

Environment:Start Time: 2:45 PM Temperature: 67 degrees Sky: Sunshine and clouds – weather closing in. Quickly deteriorating weather greeted me this afternoon. I didn’t do a morning walk because of pretty heavy cloud cover. The Sun finally popped out and burned off those clouds but by the time I started my walk clouds were building back in from the West. I don’t know if the birds at the park had already hunkered down ahead of the coming change in climate but they were noticeably not present. I did catch a European Starling checking out a hole in a tree in…

February 26, 2022

Environment:Start Time: 3:05 PM Temperature: 43 degrees Sky: Sunshine and occasional breeze A long four day stretch of brutally cold temperatures has finally come to an end allowing me to apply my standard cure for “Cabin Fever”. Only one of the adult American Bald Eagles was anywhere to be seen but I had two photo sessions with it before s/he headed off (today’s featured image) to bluer skies. That American White Pelican is still staked out in the middle of the Arkansas River and I caught a Mallard couple (below) poking around in some freshly thawed gook on the river’s…
