Environment:Start Time: 3:35 PM Temperature: 65 degrees Sky: More Sun than Clouds with light breeze. Spring’s first day turned out to be pretty mellow. The Arkansas River was literally swamped with fishermen and women whom I blame for the serious lack of waterfowl out floating around. There were very few ducks but about the same number of Pied-billed Grebes and American Coots as usual. Yes, the Pelican is still posted up on its favorite rock on the river. I was surprised to see a Double-crested Cormorant circling high up in the sky. Certainly a sign of Spring. Today’s featured image…

Environment:Start Time: 3:05 PM Temperature: 58 degrees Sky: Sunshine with clouds and wind. I changed things up a bit today by walking on the South shore of the Arkansas River. I walked East from the Highway 96 parking area along the trail that winds around the group of watersheds known as Valco Ponds. Today I was wearing a jacket since the Sun was behind a bank of clouds when I set out. As soon as I was away from the car the Sun popped out and proceeded to roast me. Not only that but the stiff breeze that was there…

Environment:Start Time: 8:05 AM Temperature: 60 degrees Sky: Sunshine high clouds with a light breeze Local weather forecasters are saying that the next two days will be cloudy and wet so I made it a point to get out this morning. At first I thought the clouds that were out today were going to be a problem but that did not turn out to be the case. Plenty of birds about, flowers are starting to bloom and the bugs are making themselves known. One surprising thing today was the complete lack of Swallows – with all the bugs flying around…

Environment:Start Time: 2:10 PM Temperature: 39 degrees Sky: sunshine, moderate breeze A chilly day finally moderated sufficiently to allow me to hit the trail this afternoon at Lake Pueblo State Park. I was surprised at the number of other visitors who also managed to make it out as well. Snow is only present in the most shadowy areas and the trails are mostly mud free. As usual, I did not see any Eagles and the Owls are also staying out of sight. My Belted Kingfisher buddy was quite active and kept well out of range. As luck would have it…
