Environment:Start Time: 8:20 AM Temperature: 42 degrees Sky: Sunshine, few clouds, light breeze, Blue sky Autumn continues to take root at Lake Pueblo State Park in grand form. This was an excellent day to be out there especially since the there was no noticeable wildfire haze to be seen. Pikes Peak was visible in all its splendor as were the Wet Mountains. Many birds were out enjoying the clear air as well. I saw many different types of Sparrows and at least three Osprey – none eating fish. It wasn’t only birds out and about today but I also managed…

Environment:Start Time: 8:55 AM Temperature: 50 degrees Sky: Sunny and clear A truly fantastic Autumn morning greeted me this morning. I had high hopes because coming into Lake Pueblo State Park I was able to see Pikes Peak due to the lack of wildfire haze. I guess the big success of today’s tour was (today’s featured image) a shot of a Killdeer bouncing along the bank of the Arkansas River. This is not an unusual behavior by any means except that today the bird was on the same side of the river as I was AND s/he let me get…

Environment:Start Time: 8:10 AM Temperature: 46 degrees Sky: Wildfire haze filtered sunshine Nice and crisp this morning under a cloudless sky. The horizons all around were orange tinged with wildfire haze but the upper levels were a definite blue. Pikes Peak was not visible as I drove into the park. Though many birds were visible, today’s group had an uncanny knack for landing on branches behind other branches that obscured my view of them. It happened so often that it simply had to be intentional. I have been hoping to get a shot of a Tarantula over the last couple…

Environment:Start Time: 9:15 AM Temperature: 55 degrees Sky: Sunny, Intermittent Breeze Late start today because I had to wait for the park customer service center to open at 9 AM so I could purchase my annual park pass. Last year’s expired yesterday. This delay is not really a problem this time of year since the temperatures are very comfortable and the Sun is still at a low enough angle to get decent lighting for most photos. I did come away with some bird shots though nothing exotic. Just a Kestrel and an Audubon’s Warbler posted in the gallery below. Today’s…

Environment:Start Time: 8:40 AM Temperature: 49 degrees Sky: Sunny, Intermittent Breeze American Robins Rule Today’s outing turned out to be full of surprises. The first thing I noticed during the first portion of my walk was an incredible number of Robins flitting about. They were everywhere – I think they outnumbered the Starlings. Then, while puzzling over the Robins, I noticed that Juncos have arrived back at Lake Pueblo State Park for their Winter stay. I did not get a shot of one but I have time. Finally I discovered that I will have to eat my words from my…
