January 16, 2023

Environment:Start Time: 3:50 PM Temperature: 53 degrees Sky: Sunny with thin clouds. Another break in the gloomy weather provided the opportunity to go for a walk along the river. Even at 53 degrees it was a little chilly out which would have been easier to handle if I’d had something to do like maybe take some pictures of birds. Not much happening on that front. I did catch another shot of a Northern Shrike (featured) who seemed to be actively hunting though I have no idea what. My other capture (below) is a Belted Kingfisher who was working the Arkansas…

December 05, 2020 Re-post

I’m into day seven of my ten day Isolation sentence – starting to feel a lot better. Once again a retro-post with some pretty cool Kingfisher shots form this day in 2020. Environment:Start Time: 11:30 AM Temperature: 51 degrees Sky: Sunny, no clouds, light breeze Spectacular weather continues. I’m not sure why the birds are making themselves so scarce. Maybe the continued presence of Red-Tails and Kestrels has something to do with it – not sure. That is not to say that today’s photo efforts went unrewarded. I managed to spot a male Belted Kingfisher perched along the Arkansas River…

December 02, 2021Re-post

Here is another blast from the past while I recuperate. Environment:Start Time: 8:35 AM Temperature: 48 degrees Sky: Sunshine with light breeze. December is starting out on the warm side. I mean walking along the river in a T-shirt is not what you would expect. Not complaining though. Activity is picking up, too. There were a lot of American Robins darting in and out of the trees along the Arkansas. I think this was a group of migrants stopping for a rest. They were popping down to the water for some pretty long sips of water as pictured below. I…

November 10, 2022

Environment:Start Time: 3:35 PM Temperature: 53 degrees Sky: Sun with malicious breeze. Today’s tour of Lake Pueblo State Park was a mixed bag of great light, sparse bird presence and biting breezes. Mule Deer did their best to make up for the issues – they were everywhere. And my only bird capture was a lucky break and is today’s featured image. I spotted a Belted Kingfisher – on my side of the river – who was perched perfectly in the light of the setting Sun. I think the sunlight prevented it from noticing me and allowed me to get kind…
