November 14, 2021 – Repost

Yet another bit of history for your enjoyment. As you can see – November can be a tough month. Environment:Start Time: 9:25 AM Temperature: 44 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine. Walking conditions were much better this morning but birding conditions remain disappointing. I think yesterday’s wind blew away all the little birds. The bigger birds were keeping their distance today. The image posted below is an example of the kind of distance I’m talking about. I took the shot in hopes of at least making an ID of the largish bird I saw perched in the distant tree. I don’t…

December 02, 2021Re-post

Here is another blast from the past while I recuperate. Environment:Start Time: 8:35 AM Temperature: 48 degrees Sky: Sunshine with light breeze. December is starting out on the warm side. I mean walking along the river in a T-shirt is not what you would expect. Not complaining though. Activity is picking up, too. There were a lot of American Robins darting in and out of the trees along the Arkansas. I think this was a group of migrants stopping for a rest. They were popping down to the water for some pretty long sips of water as pictured below. I…

Environment:Start Time: 8:40 AM Temperature: 48 degrees Sky: Sunshine. It’s Always Sunny at Lake Pueblo State Park. But not always active. Today’s photos are on the mundane side I’m afraid. I did see a couple of Great Blue Herons but that was about as sexy as it got. Today’s featured image is of a Gadwall Duck cruising on the Arkansas River. Below is another Song Sparrow but with a better background than the one I shot yesterday. I wish it would snow in the mountains so that the Bald Eagles would decide to come our way. I keep waiting. Sightings:Birds:…

Environment:Start Time: 9:45 AM Temperature: 39 degrees Sky: Cloud and Sun with an unwelcome breeze. Rather a crisp morning for today’s outing that was not exactly enhanced by the pesky breeze that joined me for the tour. Not much going on at all – not even many fishermen on the river. I did manage to get a pretty good shot of a White-crowned Sparrow but I am afraid if I post it one or both of my regular readers will come to my house and break my camera. So for the featured image I am posting a digitally enhanced Autumn…

Environment:Start Time: 9:10 AM Temperature: 61 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine, moderate wind. Check out last year’s walk on this day here I didn’t realize how windy it was this morning when I left the house so conditions at Lake Pueblo were kind of a surprise. The wind, though warm, was quite annoying. I ended up cutting today’s tour down to just a mile because there was not much happening other than leaves blowing all around. It’s kind of funny that last year on this day (November 13, 2020) I complained about the wind as well and only got one…

November 13, 2020

Environment:Start Time: 1:35 PM Temperature: 62 degrees Sky: Sunny, few clouds, moderate wind I had intended on taking a long walk this afternoon but a pesky, persistent wind made me go for a shorter walk instead. It was just as well since the wind was keeping the majority of birds grounded. One Red-Tailed Hawk was really enjoying the wind as he rode the currents coming up off of the Rock Canyon bluffs. I managed only one shot of him (a fuzzy one at that) before he glided off to the South along the Arkansas River. The only other shot I…

Environment:Start Time: 7:10 AM Temperature: 66 degrees Sky: Heavy wildfire haze, no breeze Today’s walk turned a little tedious this morning because of a higher level of humidity. It wasn’t so bad at first but as the sun rose above the fire haze it got pretty uncomfortable. Once again, there was lots of bird chatter but not many of them were willing to show themselves for digital immortalization. I did manage a few frames of a passing Cormorant which is the featured image of the day. Sightings:Birds: Osprey, Barn Swallows, Starlings, Mallard Ducks, Flicker, Robins, Great Blue Heron, Blue Jay,…
