Environment:Start Time: 3:25 PM Temperature: 59 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine with light breeze. The last day of November closed out in a spectacular display of color. Fortunately I showed up today with the my wide angle kit intending to get some scenic shots before every last leaf has abandoned its tree. I started a little late today and the Sun was setting on me when I noticed that the clouds in the West were teasing what could be another beautiful sunset. So after shooting a few typical scenic images posted here and below, I hustled up to my favorite…

Environment:Start Time: 3:10 PM Temperature: 55 degrees Sky: Sun, high clouds. Another great afternoon walk goes into the books. What birds there were were pretty active but in no mood to be photographed. Posted here is the one Dark-eyed Junco who had a minute to stop and think. But things took a good turn at the end of my walk. The Sun was doing interesting things with the thin clouds that were floating around in the West over Lake Pueblo. So instead of going straight home I drove up to my usual spot on the Lake Pueblo Dam and waited…

Environment:Start Time: 3:05 PM Temperature: 68 degrees Sky: Sun, few clouds. While some folks were out taking advantage of Black Friday deals, I, and a lot of others, was out taking an afternoon walk along the Arkansas River. I really kind of prefer late afternoon / early evening walks at Lake Pueblo State Park in the cooler months. For one thing it is usually warmer and the light from the lower angled sunshine makes for some great shots. Today’s offerings aren’t really good examples of those afore mentioned “Great Shots” but you have to deal with the subjects that present…

Environment:Start Time: 9:05 AM Temperature: 49 degrees Sky: Sun with few clouds. Check out last year’s walk on this day HERE. Cool starting temperatures gave way to enough radiant heating to make me regret wearing a heavy sweatshirt by the end of today’s walk. Still pretty nice conditions for late November. Bird photography turned out to be just OK with most birds seen only in flight and pretty far away. I was surprised to catch a couple of House Finches (posted below) checking things out. I had to take their pictures since they were standing pretty still and had graciously…

Environment:Start Time: 9:10 AM Temperature: 43 degrees Sky: Sunshine, Chilly again this morning at Lake Pueblo State Park. Still a good day for walking by the river. Animal activity, though still low, is starting to pick up. I spotted what I am pretty sure was a Hooded Merganser and there was another new duck that I couldn’t identify. I shot today’s featured image just as I arrived for my walk. It demonstrates how the local wildlife is becoming (too) comfortable with the human visitors at the park. Still, it’s kind of funny. The two pictures posted below are also kind…

Environment:Start Time: 9:20 AM Temperature: 54 degrees Sky: Cloud and Sun with a light breeze. Check out last year’s walk on this day HERE. Fifteen degrees warmer, a little more sunshine and a lot less breeze really can make a difference. Once again I was out walking in a T-shirt instead of the heavy sweatshirt I wore a couple of days ago. Great walking conditions all around. The colder temps of yesterday have really done a number on the Autumn color. Most of the trees are bare and the wind took down at least one tree that I saw. The…

Environment:Start Time: 9:45 AM Temperature: 39 degrees Sky: Cloud and Sun with an unwelcome breeze. Rather a crisp morning for today’s outing that was not exactly enhanced by the pesky breeze that joined me for the tour. Not much going on at all – not even many fishermen on the river. I did manage to get a pretty good shot of a White-crowned Sparrow but I am afraid if I post it one or both of my regular readers will come to my house and break my camera. So for the featured image I am posting a digitally enhanced Autumn…

November 14, 2021

Environment:Start Time: 9:25 AM Temperature: 44 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine. Walking conditions were much better this morning but birding conditions remain disappointing. I think yesterday’s wind blew away all the little birds. The bigger birds were keeping their distance today. The image posted below is an example of the kind of distance I’m talking about. I took the shot in hopes of at least making an ID of the largish bird I saw perched in the distant tree. I don’t usually post ID photos but this one is kind of intriguing because when I cropped in on my computer…
