Environment:Start Time: 8:30 AM Temperature: 48 degrees Sky: Sunshine, few clouds and noticeable breeze Beautiful weather continued to please this morning at Lake Pueblo State Park. I’m not sure why the birds are not out enjoying it but I managed to come home with some (not sexy) postables anyway. The featured image is another Gadwall Duck enjoying the Arkansas River. She had several girlfriends with her on the outing. Posted here is a White-crowned Sparrow (says Google) who got my attention by sitting still in really nice light. I wish this bird would give lessons to everyone else. Below is…

Environment:Start Time: 9:35 AM Temperature: 48 degrees Sky: Sun and clouds with a light breeze Morning fog kept me waiting today but finally this bright shiny orb burned through and I decided to try another walk. There was a lot of chatter all around me as I walked but it was confined to the trees and prairie with no one coming out to sing for a photo. The Swallows were swarming the Arkansas River again today and were still tough to photograph. I tried but failed. Not much else was going on in the river – only a few Mallards…

Environment:Start Time: 9:00 AM Temperature: 50 degrees Sky: Sunny, light breeze The only word to describe this morning’s weather is perfect. I saw Starlings, Sharp-shinned Hawks and Osprey all working on their nests. Of these the most interesting were the Osprey. Their nests are built entirely of sticks and can be quite elaborate. I had always wondered where they got these sticks as I have never seen an Osprey bouncing around on the ground looking for them nor have I ever seen one carrying branches in their mouths like other birds do. Last Spring I found out where they get…

Environment:Start Time: 8:50 AM Temperature: 55 degrees Sky: Sunny with few clouds; moderate breeze Much calmer at Lake Pueblo State Park this morning if you didn’t count the breeze. I got going as early as I could to avoid the afternoon wind that had been predicted. It was also expected to get pretty warm as well, though snow is predicted for tomorrow morning. You know, Spring. The Starlings were, by far, the most active birds. I tried to spot a nest but was unsuccessful – I am keeping an eye on the one I found last year but so far…

Environment:Start Time: 12:50 PM Temperature: 44 degrees Sky: Sunny, high clouds, light breeze This was a great day with which to end 2020. Calm and pleasant. It took most of the morning to get warmed up but it was well worth the wait. I posted up on the South bank of the Arkansas with the thought of doing some more duck video. I did get a couple of videos that I still need to edit so posting them here is going to have to wait. One thing I have to confirm when I work on those files is that I’m…

Environment:Start Time: 10:40 AM Temperature: 57 degrees Sky: Sunshine, light breeze Another fantastic day for a stroll in the park. Since the bird population has been down of late leaving the options to ducks or juncos I decided to concentrate on ducks this morning. Not only that – I decided it would be a good day to try out the video on the GH4. So with tripod in hand I pulled into the parking lot on the South side of the river and headed downriver to see what I could capture. Two of today’s videos are posted below. Not the…

Environment:Start Time: 10:30 AM Temperature: 55 degrees Sky: Sunshine, light breeze Weather is still allowing me to make it out in the mornings and today that was important because more wind is in the forecast to be followed by a cold snap. I managed to do the full two mile tour today with few stops for photography. There was a bigger variety of subjects today but none too cooperative. Today’s featured image is of what I believe is a Gadwall Duck. There were around five of them paddling around in the Arkansas River making easy targets for one desperate photographer….

Environment:Start Time: 9:35 AM Temperature: 46 degrees Sky: Sunny, high thin clouds, moderate breeze Starting to get cool again. Temperature kept me waiting this morning but finally decided to break into the forties so I could walk. Even at the lower temp it was a great day to walk. I can’t say the same for bird or scenic photography. Not that I came home empty handed. Posted below is about the best shot of Bufflehead Ducks that I’ve been able to capture. This group was far enough away that they didn’t feel obligated to fly away the second I arrived…
