Environment:Start Time: 6:45 AM Temperature: 59 degrees Sky: Mostly sunny. Light breeze. The Sun was finally able to muscle through the haze and clouds this morning and shed some glorious light onto Lake Pueblo State Park. A light breeze made walking quite pleasant. Even though birding was pretty much limited to the usual suspects, there was one bit of excitement on the banks of the Arkansas River. A Belted Kingfisher had caught what looked to me like a crayfish and was flying over to a perch when a Grackle (I think) swooped in to try and steel the Kingfisher’s prize….

Environment:Start Time: 7:10 AM Temperature: 63 degrees Sky: Sun and few clouds with light breeze The Sun triumphed over some early morning clouds lighting up Lake Pueblo State Park in a blaze of glory! I’m trying to add a little drama to these posts. Not many people or birds were out to enjoy the wonderful conditions. Environment:Start Time: 9:00 AM Temperature: 50 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine with a light breeze Two more days of unsettled weather have finally given way to another great day for walking. You can tell we got some pretty good rain by the number of large puddles on the trails and high, swift water moving in the Arkansas River. I only saw one Mallard and two Wood Ducks who were willing to try their luck on the river. Today’s featured image (above) is a Wood Duck Hen that I caught hanging around what I believe to be her nest. No ducklings…
