Arrived at a little after 6 this morning as the sun was trying to gain a foothold through some pesky clouds. Temperature in the mid-50 range with no breeze. Once again our arrival was greeted with more aerial fishing acrobatics by a number of Osprey over the fishing pond. In fact just as I drove up one of the birds rose off the water with a good sized fish in hand and flew right over me. I guess he knew there was no chance of me taking a picture at that point. One other interesting sighting today was of a…

Got to the river around 6:15 this morning as the sun was rising. Temperature of 52 with a slight breeze. Upon arrival we were greeted with an amazing aerial show consisting of four Osprey actively fishing the Anticline Fishing Pond. They were swooping and diving and trying to steal each other’s catch. Sadly all of the best action was well out of reach for my 200mm lens but it was a real treat to watch. The other two highlights for today’s walk was seeing a beaver swimming on the far bank of the Arkansas River and I got another (better)…

Earliest start of the year at 6:10 AM with the temperature already at 55. Weather forecast is for wind today so I decided to try to beat it to the river. Things were active bird-wise but not people-wise which is just the way we like it. There was a little more action at the Starling nest. Today the adults were quite busy bringing in food for, not one, but two little Starlings whose heads were well out of the nest. The photo I got was not great but I have included it in the gallery below. Sightings:Birds: Starlings, Robins, Swallows,…

Began walking this morning around 7ish. I forgot to check the temperature upon arrival but it is safe to say it was in the mid fifties. More bird activity today with some more cooperative subjects. Just as we got out of the car to start out I had to dodge a scramble of three Bullock’s Orioles who seemed to be in an intense discussion of some type. The highlight for today’s tour came at the Starling nest that I have been keeping an eye on all Spring. I managed to catch one of the adult birds flying up to the…
